PUBLIC NOTICE
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the qualified electors residing within the Charles City Community School District located in Chickasaw County, Iowa, that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the Iowa Code.
The polls for said election will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. VOTERS MUST VOTE AT THEIR ASSIGNED POLLING PLACE. Please read this notice carefully to determine your correct polling location. If voters have questions regarding their polling location, they may refer to their voter registration card, visit the Chickasaw County Elections website at chickasawcountyelections.iowa.gov, or contact the Chickasaw County Auditor's Office at 641-394-2100.

Shall the Board of Directors of the Charles City Community School District, in the Counties of Floyd and Chickasaw, State of Iowa, for the purpose of purchasing and improving grounds; constructing schoolhouses or buildings and opening roads to schoolhouses or buildings; purchasing of buildings; purchase, lease or lease-purchase of technology and equipment; paying debts contracted for the erection or construction of schoolhouses or buildings, not including interest on bonds; procuring or acquisition of libraries; repairing, remodeling, reconstructing, improving, or expanding the schoolhouses or buildings and additions to existing schoolhouses; expenditures for energy conservation; renting facilities under Iowa Code Chapter 28E; purchasing transportation equipment for transporting students; lease purchase option agreements for school buildings or equipment; purchasing equipment authorized by law; or for any purpose or purposes now or hereafter authorized by law, be authorized for a period of ten (10) years to levy and impose a voter-approved physical plant and equipment tax of not exceeding One Dollar Thirty-Four Cents ($1.34) per One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) of assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district, and be authorized annually, in combination, as determined by the board, to levy a physical plant and equipment property tax upon all the taxable property within the school district commencing with the levy of property taxes for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2031, and to impose a physical plant and equipment income surtax upon the state individual income tax of each individual income taxpayer resident in the school district on December 31 for each calendar year commencing with calendar year 2030, or each year thereafter?
Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered, such as voters registering to vote on election day and voters changing precincts, must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification (or prove residence if required) may cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the county auditor’s office by noon on September 14, 2026. Election Day Registrants may use an attester from that precinct, but attesters must provide an approved form of identification. Election Day registrants using an attester to establish proof of residence must comply with the requirements of Iowa law. An attester may only be used for Election Day Registration and is not a substitute for providing voter identification.
ELECTION FRAUD. A voter commits the crime of Election Misconduct in the first degree if the person submits false information when registering to vote. Election Misconduct in the first degree is a Class "D" felony and is punishable by a fine of up to $7,500 and/or imprisonment for up to five (5) years. Convicted felons who register and vote without having their voting rights restored by the Governor commit a Class "D" felony. If you are uncertain whether your voting rights have been restored, request a provisional ballot.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that any voter who requires assistance to vote because of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may receive assistance from a person of the voter's choice, other than the voter's employer or agent of that employer or an officer or agent of the voter's union.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, in accordance with Section 49.90 of the Iowa Code, that any voter who is physically unable to enter the polling place has the right to vote from the voter's vehicle. For additional information, contact the Chickasaw County Auditor's Office at 641-394-2100 or auditor@chickasawcounty.iowa.gov. For TTY access, call 641-394-3121. Each polling place is equipped with an accessible ballot-marking device (FVT) to assist voters with disabilities in casting their ballot independently.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, in accordance with Section 52.35 of the Iowa Code, that the duly authorized agents of the Chickasaw County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections shall publicly examine and test all voting equipment to be used for the September 8, 2026 Charles City Community School District Special Election.
PUBLIC TEST FOR VOTING EQUIPMENT. A public test of the voting equipment to be used for the September 8, 2026 Charles City Community School District Special Election will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the meeting room located on the first floor of the Chickasaw County Courthouse, behind the Driver's License Office. The public is invited to attend.
